The Iron Empire

The Iron Empire once controlled all the know world from its capital in Prima Casa, pushing as far north as Bjotrnorth on the ice floes. Ruled essentially by the Vatcha known as the The Crown of Kings through a series of tyrants and Emperors, the Empire was gerontocratic in structure, ruled by the eldest who were believed to be also the wisest and most experienced. It was well-structured, hierarchical and stratified but also stagnant.

The Iron Empire lasted for 500 years, until the last Empress – Hero – came into the possession of the Vatcha known as The Heat of the Moment. Prima Casa burned to the ground as she played. Hero was respected and well-liked by most of her servants, but more as the idea of the Empress than a person in her own right. She was often melancholy and disdained company.

With the burning of Prima Casa, including most of its libraries with records and maps of the two expeditions across the sea, the Iron Empire collapsed. The once-arable lands around the city turned to desert and what was left of Prima Casa fell into even more ruin. The survivors of the devastation fled north, principally to Fang and the other nearer cities. This was 200 years ago.
